  • In what states do you offer therapy?
I am fully licensed in Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts. In addition to these states, my online therapy services are available in Vermont and Florida, where I am a registered telehealth provider.
  • Do you offer in person therapy, or are all your services online?
I do weekly sessions online only, and I am able to see people across all of several states that way. Many of my clients appreciate being able to squeeze in sessions on a lunch break, meet from home, or have the flexibility to decide where they will do their sessions from time to time. I offer EMDR intensives in person in Providence, RI on Fridays and Saturdays by arrangement.
  • Why don't you take insurance?
While it is convenient to use your insurance to cover mental health costs, and I get it, doing so does come with some trade offs. Insurance sets forth the contract agreements with providers, and these dictate the terms for treatment and coverage. For example, therapists must substantiate and continually document "medical necessity" for therapy, meaning they must justify why treatment is necessary to your health. Did you know that couple's therapy and sex therapy, fg, are not covered by insurance? Personal growth or optimal wellbeing and functioning are also not considered "necessary." Insurance companies also do audits of case files to reclaim payment for services provided where stringent documentation rules have not been met to their satisfaction. Besides the financial risk to the therapist, many clients also find the audits of their session notes and records to be an invasion of privacy, and prefer to pay out of pocket. Here are a few articles about why more therapists are moving away from insurance, and why you might consider paying Out Of Network: If you prefer to use your insurance, you may inquire with your insurance provider regarding OON (out of network) claims. I can provide you with a receipt or monthly bill that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
  • How much will therapy cost?
50 minute sessions are $175 ($200 for the initial intake), and longer sessions are priced accordingly. Payment is due at time of service. The recommended frequency for therapy is once per week. I provide a Good Faith Estimate, GFE, of what you can expect therapy to cost for the remainder of the calendar year in which we begin. Good Faith Estimates, as required by the No Surprise Act, are meant to give clients a general sense of overall treatment costs before embarking on the therapeutic journey. A GFE is provided to self-pay clients, and is based on the self-pay rates listed above, as well as the estimated frequency and length of treatment for your diagnoses or treatment goals.
  • I am curious about EMDR Intensives - tell me more?
Sure! EMDR Intensives are a great way to go deeper for longer, and move through some tough places faster. I offer intensives in person in Providence, RI, on Fridays and Saturdays. We would start off with at least one assessment session online, to determine if an EMDR intensive is right for you at this time. Schedule a free consultation call so that we can discuss your needs. Insurance companies do not typically cover EMDR Intensive Therapy.
